Southern Governorate’s infrastructure projects to meet rapid urban growth

The Director-General of the Municipality of the Southern Region, Eng. Assem Abdullatif Abdullah, has announced that the municipal councils are overseeing the implementation of infrastructure development projects in coordination with various executive bodies.

Numerous infrastructure projects are currently underway to improve roads and establish sewage networks in various areas of the Southern Governorate.

The Director- General emphasised the Ministry of Works’ role in executing infrastructure development and sustainability projects.

These initiatives include road improvements, parking provision, rain drainage networks, and sanitation services, all aimed at enhancing public services and meeting citizens’ needs. He stressed the importance of expediting infrastructure projects, noting their high priority in facilitating daily life and services for residents.

Eng. Abdullah highlighted the rapid urban development in the Southern Governorate, which necessitates quicker completion of infrastructure projects to support the national economy.

Key infrastructure projects include providing sanitation services to 315 properties in Zallaq, Block 1056, developing Hajiyat Road and the roundabout at Hajiyat Road and Jeddah Street in Riffa, Block 939-935, implementing the second phase of development for Street 41 in the Educational District, Isa Town, developing Al Mahzoura Avenue, Street 37, and Hajiyat Road 939, and developing Road No. 3410 in Block 934.

The road development projects aim to increase vehicle flow, improve traffic safety, and ease movement for citizens.

Additionally, sewage network installations are in progress in Riffa, Block 939, and a sewage network is being completed in Block 924, Jari Al Sheikh area.

The Municipal Council is closely monitoring the implementation of these infrastructure projects in coordination with executive authorities to ensure their timely and high-quality delivery.
