The Northern Municipal Council endorsed a proposal to expedite the study of procedures for including the Barbar Temples on the Unesco World Heritage List.
This initiative aims to highlight the importance of preserving Bahrain’s cultural and historical heritage, emphasising the historical and cultural significance of the Barbar Temples, and enhancing their potential for cultural and heritage tourism.
The proposal also addresses concerns about the site’s neglect and the risk of damage or theft of its historical artifacts, as evidenced by the recent theft of an ancient vessel.
This came as the Council unanimously approved several proposals during its meeting on Monday.
These proposals address heritage preservation, public amenities, and safety enhancements within the Northern Governorate.
The Council approved the allocation and registration of land for the construction of a public park in Hamad Town.
This project aims to provide residents with access to green spaces, promote social interaction, and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.
Land for mosque
Additionally, it approved the allocation and registration of land for the construction of a mosque affiliated with Sunni Waqf in Hamad Town.
This initiative aims to enhance the availability of religious facilities and strengthen Islamic values within the community.
Meanwhile, the Council granted permission to owners of apartment buildings to relocate water heaters to rooftops and install external emergency stairs for each floor.
This measure aims to prevent electrical hazards and explosions that could lead to fires and loss of life.
The external emergency stairs will serve as an escape route in case of emergencies, protecting residents from injuries and safeguarding lives.
