Campaign apace for Pak School Board elections

Election campaign is in full swing as the elections for Pakistan School Board of Management are round the corner. The elections for the seven-member board will be held on December 5 (9am to 6pm) on Pakistan School premises in Isa Town.

Voting will be held through secret ballot and a special representative of the Ministry of Education will supervise the elections. If any eligible member is unable to come for casting his vote with any valid reason, his wife, son or daughter above the age of 18, can cast his vote after showing the member’s original CPR.

There are two opposite groups informally in the field – Chaudhry Rafaqat Group and Arif Aziz Group.

Chaudhry Rafaqat Group had a corner meeting with the parents on Tuesday night at Karnatka Social Club here in Bahrain. Around 200 parents attended the meeting. Nafees al Hassan and Kabeer Ahmed were the stage secretaries. Chaudhry Rafaqat presented his manifesto before the parents and requested them to vote for him in the elections and said if he were given a chance, he would make everything transparent in the school system.

Speaking to DT News, Chaudhry Rafaqat said they would bring everything on merit in the school system and remove all the shortcomings of the finance system as well. “We will turn the barren ground into a proper playground for the students and will do it on the priority basis. Improvement of the transport system of the school is also on our agenda.”

There are nineteen members in the final list of the candidates for school board elections. The names of the candidates are: Chaudhry Rafaqat Hussain, Arif Aziz, Ilyas Khan, Majid Hussain, Mohammed Naseem,

Fareed Khan, Ejaz Yousaf, Afzaal Yousaf, Khalil Khan, Ghulam Jilani, Manzoor Ahmed, Maqbool Raza, Hayat, Kashif, Qari Samiurehman, Shahjehan, Naseer, Abdul Qayyum and Qaiser Mahmood.

Any graduate parent of a child studying in Pakistan School with at least two years stay in Bahrain can contest the elections while the parents constitute the electorate. Pakistan School is a community school run by the Board of Management elected by the vote of the parents.

This is the fourth election in the history of Pakistan School. The Board of Management is elected for three years term and the elected board acts as the governing body of the school. The first three elections were held in 2006, 2009 and 2012 consecutively.

Shaikh Ahmed Khan was the first elected chairman of the board while Arif Aziz and Ahmed Asif have also served as the chairmen. Current chairman of the management board is Muhammad Ilyas Khan.
