RCSI Medical University of Bahrain hosts 15th conferring ceremony

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, attended the 15th conferring ceremony of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain at its campus in Busaiteen, which witnessed the graduation of 131 medical graduates and 111 graduates from the undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes.
Addressing the attendees, newly appointed RCSI President, Professor Deborah McNamara, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his patronage of the conferring ceremony.
Professor McNamara congratulated the graduates on their achievements and dedication throughout the years and praised the ongoing relationship and strong ties between RCSI and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
RCSI Medical University of Bahrain President, Professor Sameer Otoom also took the opportunity to congratulate the graduates and extended his gratitude to their family, friends and sponsors who had supported them in their achievements and wished them continued success. RCSI Vice Chancellor/Chief Executive and Registrar, Professor Cathal Kelly, Registrar of the National University of Ireland, and a number of senior officials also attended the ceremony.
During the ceremony, His Excellency Brigadier (Professor) Fahad Khalifa Al Khalifa, Commander of the Royal Medical Services – Bahrain Defence Force, was conferred with a Fellowship Ad Eundem from RCSI.
This prestigious honour recognises His Excellency’s significant contributions in the field of Orthopaedic surgery, his dedication to education as an Associate Professor at the University and his long-standing dedication to advancing healthcare services in the Kingdom of Bahrain throughout his career. It was a particularly special day for the class valedictorian Dr Baheya Ali Dawaishan, who is a recipient of the Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa Scholarship, which was awarded to her upon admission to RCSI Medical University of Bahrain for her outstanding academic achievements.
Dr Dawaishan was awarded the Medicine Overall Gold Medal, the Senior Cycle Bronze Medal and the Professor Charlotte Kamel Prize in Psychiatry. Dr Jannat Akram Tanweer was awarded the Degree Award Gold Medal, Senior Cycle Silver Medal, the Professor Niall O’ Higgins Prize in Surgery and the Professor John Murphy Prize in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Dr Maryam Sadiq Alrabeea won the Professor James Finucane Prize in Medicine, Dr Omar Abdulhakeem Abdulmalek was awarded the Professor Joe McMenamin Prize in Paediatrics and Dr Mohamed Bakr Elnagar was awarded the Professor David Whitford Prize in General Practice. During the School of Nursing and Midwifery and School of Postgraduate Studies & Research ceremony, the valedictorian Nurse Aysha Hamad Alrowaiei was awarded the BSc Nursing Bronze Medal. The BSc Nursing Silver Medal was awarded to Nurse Ayah Abdulredha Hasan, and the Rufaida Al-Aslamia Award in Nursing was awarded to Nurse Sharefa Alqasimi.
The Msc in Nursing Overall Gold Medal was awarded to Nurse Malak Hasan Danar. Since hosting its first Conferring Ceremony in 2010, RCSI Bahrain has produced more than 3,200 graduates in medicine, nursing and postgraduate studies who are now working in 39 countries throughout the world.
