The Civil Defense yesterday successfully extinguished the massive fire that broke out in several residential buildings and shops in the old Manama Market on Wednesday after more than 30 continuous hours of intense fire fighting.

Unfortunately, the blaze resulted in the tragic deaths of a man and two women, while nine others suffered injuries and cases of suffocation. Earlier, the Public Prosecution of the Capital Governorate announced that it had initiated an investigation into the tragedy.

“Prosecutors immediately visited the scene of the fire and conducted an initial inspection. They examined the bodies of the deceased and appointed the Public Prosecution’s forensic doctor to conduct an autopsy,” a statement issued by the Public Prosecution stated.

Additionally, the Public Prosecution assigned the Crime Scene Team of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science and the General Directorate of Civil Defense to collect evidence from the fire scene and prepare technical reports to determine the cause of the fire, as per the statement.

“The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances and details of the incident,” the statement concluded. Rescue and civil defense teams said that the bodies were recovered from the rubble of the devastated building located in the historic heart of Manama.

Their condition is stable, and they are currently undergoing treatment at Salmaniya Medical Complex. The injuries include burns of varying degrees and several fractures.
