MP pushes for hazard pay, insurance for Civil Defence members

MP Maryam Al Dhaen has proposed a bill urging the government to grant hazard and work allowances, along with comprehensive insurance coverage, to firefighters in Bahrain. In her explanatory memorandum, Al Dhaen highlighted the critical role firefighters play in protecting lives and property.
She emphasised their constant exposure to various hazards and risks, including fires and accidents, which put their lives and health at risk of death, illness, or disability. This proposal comes in the wake of the huge efforts exerted by firefighters to put out the flames that engulfed the old Manama Souq.
Three people died while seven were injured as a result of the incident. The firefighters’ and the Civil Defence personnel’s efforts have received praise after managing to respond to the fire in no time.
