A shocking incident at the public psychiatric hospital has resulted in a one-year prison sentence and a BD1000 fine for the patient who brutally attacked a nurse, leaving him with a permanent 20% disability in his eye.

The incident occurred when the 30-year-old patient punched the nurse in the eye and continued to assault him. The public prosecutor charged the patient with assault, citing the permanent injuries he inflicted on the nurse while he was performing his duties. The medical report confirmed the 20% permanent disability in the nurse's eye, a life-altering consequence of the attack.

Despite the patient's mental health condition and history of drug abuse, a medical committee assigned to examine him during the trial concluded that he was responsible for his actions. The committee found no direct causal link between his mental health condition and the attack, holding him accountable for his behavior.

The High Criminal Court sentenced the defendant to one year in prison and a BD1000 fine.
