In an exclusive interview with The Daily Tribune, former Indian Ladies Association (ILA) President Sarada Ajith reflects on her tenure and shares insights into the significant achievements and milestones that marked her leadership.
Successful Events and Cultural Revivals
President Sarada began her tenure committed to revitalising ILAss cultural and social initiatives. She launched her presidency with the ILA Ghabga event, followed by several impactful charity initiatives focused on workers’ welfare.
“The success of the Ghabga event gave me the confidence to revive traditional events that had been paused due to the pandemic,” she shared.
Among these were the Anand Bazaar, featuring renowned Kathak exponent Mr. Kumar Sharma from India, and the Leela Jashnmal Lecture series.
Additionally, she hosted a grand Onam celebration at the new villa, marking a return to cultural festivities.
Significant Infrastructure Upgrade
One of President Sarada’s most noteworthy accomplishments was the relocating operations from a flat to a spacious villa. This move, long considered a dream, provided enhanced facilities and ample parking space.
“Achieving this milestone involved overcoming numerous logistical challenges and securing necessary government approvals, but it was worth every effort,” Sarada explained.
Enhanced Facilities for Special Needs
Children The new villa significantly benefited the ILA Sneha Recreation Centre for special needs children.
“With more space for activities and improved learning tools, such as a new projector for visual learning, our Sneha children now have a better environment to thrive,” she noted.
Community and Member Engagement
President Sarada made it a priority to foster a sense of community and empowerment.
She organized the ILA Diva, Beyond Beauty event, which provided a platform for nurses, house helpers, and Sneha children to showcase their talents.
“Seeing the joy and pride on their faces as they performed was incredibly rewarding,” she recalled.
Another highlight was the ILA Dandiya event during Navratri, which saw over 1800 attendees and was celebrated as one of the best Dandiya events on the island.
Educational and Informative Programs
Under Sarada’s leadership, the Leela Jashnmal Lecture series was revived, featuring Dr. Tessy Thomas, the missile woman of India.
“This lecture provided an informative and inspiring session, highlighting ILA’s commitment to educational initiatives,” Sarada said.
Financial Stability and Growth
Despite the expenses incurred in shifting premises, the association maintained financial stability.
“We managed to keep a healthy financial status through successful events and strong sponsorships,” Sharada emphasised.
Acknowledgements
President Sarada expressed profound gratitude to her executive committee members, sub-committees, advisory committee, former presidents, and all proactive members for their unwavering support.
“I also extend heartfelt thanks to my family for their understanding and encouragement throughout my tenure,” she added.
As she bids farewell, President Sharada leaves a legacy of significant achievements and a stronger, more vibrant ILA.
She extends her best wishes to the incoming committee, headed by Ms. Kiran Mangle, confident that they will continue to elevate the association to new heights.
