With the increasing proportion of elderly individuals in our societies, it is of paramount importance that we treat our elders with the respect and care they rightfully deserve. These individuals represent the foundation of our communities, and their well-being has a profound impact on the overall health of our societies.

In response to this pressing issue, the Ministry of Social Development has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens.

A primary focus of these efforts is the expansion of day care facilities for the elderly. The Ministry is offering incentives to encourage civil society organisations to establish additional facilities. At present, there are thirteen day care institutions in operation, and the Ministry is determined to substantially increase this number. These facilities provide a variety of services, including social, health, psychological, rehabilitation, and recreational care.

For those who require more permanent care, the Ministry facilitates accommodation in care homes through collaborations with community organisations, ensuring these services are available to eligible individuals.

Moreover, the Ministry supplies prosthetic devices to senior citizens by established regulations. Efforts are also being made to guarantee that senior citizens receive discounts on services offered by government agencies, with ongoing coordination with the private sector to secure further discounts.

Community partnerships play an essential role in supporting and caring for our senior citizens. The Ministry recognises the significant contributions of civil society organisations in managing day care facilities and in their efforts to secure additional benefits for senior citizens.
