Final hearing in murder case to be held on Jan 21

The final arguments in the trial of a teenager, accused of killing a Bahraini boy, in his early 20s, on June 1, during a fatal brawl, will be heard on January 21.

The defendant had claimed earlier that he had stabbed the boy to death after the latter sprayed foam material on his face.

The pair engaged in the fatal quarrel while a religious celebration was taking place, and according to the defendant’s statement, it had all started with exchanging jokes.

“I filled my palm with flour and poured it on him after he had sprayed the foam, and he reacted with attacking me,” the defendant told the prosecutors.

“I returned to my car, took a knife and stabbed him,” he said.

The defendant was accompanied by his friend at the time of attack and the latter claimed that he wanted to block his way when he saw him holding the knife, but the 19-year-old threatened to stab him too.

“The two were fighting and attacking each other behind the car. Suddenly, my friend (the defendant) took a knife from his car. I went to him in a bid to block him, but he threatened he would stab me too if I touched him,” the friend told the prosecutors.

The defendant surrendered to the police immediately after his victim was declared dead.

The Northern Governorate Police Directorate said in a statement that the police received a call from Hamad Kanoo Health Centre, informing them that a person, who was stabbed in the chest, had died of injuries at the centre.

A crime scene investigation unit and a forensic team were immediately sent to the location to collect evidence. The prime suspect in the case surrendered to the police and the case was referred to the Public Prosecution, the statement added.
