Old Manama Souq Reopens After Fire, Power Restored

Following the fire that broke out in the Old Manama Souq, most unaffected shops have reopened after a temporary closure due to a power outage. This news was confirmed by Mahmoud Al Namilti, Vice President of the Manama Souq Development Committee, through his official Instagram account.

Al Namilti praised the efforts of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) for restoring power to the affected shops. He also highlighted the provision of a new transformer to ensure these businesses can resume their operations. Meanwhile, work is in progress in the area to assess the full extent of the damage and report it to the relevant authorities.

It's worth noting that the News of Bahrain had reported earlier that a crucial meeting is expected to be held in the coming days to discuss the aftermath and chart a path forward for the Souq.

Representatives from various government ministries, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Municipalities, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Tourism, and the Capital Municipal Council, will convene to assess the damage and formulate a comprehensive response.

Over 70 properties, including shops, apartments, and historical buildings, were damaged, with estimates exceeding 10 million dinars, the News of Bahrain has learned. Several buildings, some dating back over a century, were completely destroyed and deemed uninhabitable.
