Bahrain airport departure fees ‘among lowest despite increase’

The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, His Excellency Mohamed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, has assured the public that airport departure fees at Bahrain International Airport remain among the lowest in the region and internationally, even after the recent increase.

Responding to a parliamentary question by Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, Mr. Al Kaabi explained that the Ministry conducted a comparative study between Bahrain International Airport and numerous regional and international airports regarding air departure fees and services provided.

The study concluded that Bahrain’s airport fees remain highly competitive, offering excellent services and facilities to both departing and transit passengers. He further clarified that the Ministry held extensive consultations with Bahrain Airport Company to discuss the proposed fee increase and its potential impact on air travel.

“The Ministry also adhered to the recommendations and requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which mandates consultation with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and airlines at least four months prior to implementing new fees,” he stated.

The Minister emphasised that the increase in fees, even after the implementation of the new decision, aligns with the agreement between the government and the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council during the approval of the state budget.
