A 23-year-old inmate at the Reform Centre in Jau is facing trial for assaulting a police officer and impeding him from carrying out his duties.

The incident occurred when the officer went to check on the inmate's whereabouts in his designated room.

According to the 32-year-old officer's testimony, the inmate punched him in the face with a closed fist.

The officer's injuries were documented in a medical report submitted with the case file.

The Public Prosecution has charged the inmate with assaulting a police officer, causing injuries that did not render the victim incapable of performing his duties for more than 20 days.

He is also accused of verbally and physically insulting the officer while he was on duty.

The High Criminal Court has scheduled a hearing for July 2nd to formally announce the charges against the defendant at his place of residence.
