‘Girl Rising’ film screened at Amwaj islands

Manama

About 150 specially invited guests took part in the screening of a film ‘Girl Rising,’ at Amwaj islands yesterday, held as part of a global campaign for girls’ education

Hala Al Moayyed, Aysha Fakhro, Tasneem Al Shurougi, Nouf Abdulrahim, Sara and Eman Norideen were the organisers of the event.

Speaking to the DT News said Nouf said the object of the Programme was to spread the message across the world that proper education should be provided to their daughters it is the best tool to break the cycle of poverty.

Girl Rising is an international drive that uses film media to convey that educating girls can transform societies. Every girl has the right to go to school and the right to reach her full potential, the drive argues.

Millions of people have already seen the film and millions more are being added to this circle gradually.

According to the statistics 66 million girls have dropped out of schools globally and there are 33 million fewer girls than boys in primary schools.

According to UNICEF, educated mothers are more than twice as likely to send their children to school.
