Bahraini woman endures terrifying ordeal, knife-wielding ex-husband jailed

A Bahraini woman endured a terrifying sixhour ordeal with her ex-husband, involving threats, knives, and a desperate struggle for freedom, resulting in an 18-month prison sentence for him.

The First High Criminal Court found the ex-husband guilty of detaining his ex-wife, threatening her with violence, possessing and intending to use psychotropic substances, and assaulting the victim.

The prosecution revealed that the man, in a disturbed state, forcibly confined his ex-wife, brandishing a knife to assert control and threatening her with further harm.

The incident began when the victim’s ex-husband arrived in an agitated state, requesting to discuss their children. Fearing he might drive off without her consent, she cautiously entered the car, keeping the door open.

Separation

He immediately began shouting about their separation and her privacy.

As their children left the house and called, the defendant demanded she close the door, but she refused. The situation escalated when the defendant abruptly accelerated the vehicle with the door ajar.

In an attempt to keep the door open, the victim wedged her foot against it.

Overcome with fear, she agreed to close the door, concerned for her safety. The door unintentionally swung shut due to the vehicle’s fast movement.

The man then grabbed the victim’s hijab, preventing her from escaping the moving vehicle. He took a knife from the car’s cup holder, pressing it against her back to force compliance.

A second knife, drawn soon after, resulted in an injury to her finger during the struggle.

Escape

For six hours, the victim was driven to various locations, including Sakhir and the Askar area by the beach, where she attempted to escape but was restrained by force.

At traffic lights, she managed to briefly open the door and call for help but received no assistance.

The accused continued to threaten her with a knife, even dragging her by her hijab and tresses. Despite numerous attempts by her daughter to contact her, the ex-husband terminated the calls.

Even when the police reached out, he threatened her with the knife, forbidding any response. Ultimately, police intervention brought an end to the terrifying episode and led to his arrest.
