The Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (BFLUF), through its Health and Safety Committee, has launched its 12th annual summer safety campaign for the months of July and August 2024. The campaign aims to educate workers about the risks of working under the scorching sun and how to manage these risks, as well as provide preventive measures to avoid any adverse effects. This will be achieved through field visits to various workplaces.

BFLUF President Yaqoub Yousef Mohammed highlighted the campaign's annual role in raising awareness among all workers during this period of high temperatures. This is crucial to reduce the risk of heat stress, heat exhaustion, and sunstroke, especially for workers who perform their duties under direct sunlight.

The president further stated that the campaign targets all workers in the Kingdom. It will begin with field visits to workers in companies, institutions, and open spaces to increase awareness and provide valuable information. Additionally, initial guidance will be provided in case any worker experiences a health issue related to the sun's heat. Notably, the campaign materials will be translated into foreign languages for non-Arabic speaking workers.

The campaign will also involve distributing awareness brochures translated into multiple languages, providing cold water and advising workers to drink plenty of water during the summer, and offering symbolic gifts that help protect them from the sun's rays.

President Mohammed urged employers to provide support and assistance to their workers and comply with the regulations governing working hours during the summer. He emphasised the importance of providing a safe environment to protect the health and safety of workers, enabling them to perform their duties better and avoid risks. Additionally, he stressed the need to provide a resting place for any worker who experiences heatstroke or any other health hazard.
