Astronomical Win by Bahraini Space Engineer Makes History as First Arab to Win Prestigious 'Young Space Leaders' Award

A young Bahraini engineer has made history in the realm of space exploration. Aisha Al Haram, overcoming significant odds and outperforming fierce competition, has become the first Bahraini and Arab to win the esteemed "Young Space Leaders" award. This accolade, organised by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), represents a great achievement for Bahrain's emerging space sector and inspires young minds throughout the region. This marks the inaugural occasion in the award's 12-year history that a Bahraini or Arab has been honoured.

Commenting on this success, the Chief Executive of the National Space Science Agency (NSSA), Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Al Asiri, highlighted its significance, stating: "Engineer Aisha's win reflects the high calibre of young Bahraini talent in space science. They are significantly contributing to the advancement of this sector, despite the agency's recent formation in Bahrain. This accomplishment aligns with the ambitious royal vision of positioning the Kingdom among the leading nations in this field, a goal we are dedicated to pursuing through the achievements of Bahrain's highly motivated youth."

Engineer Aisha Al Haram, Head of the Satellite Design Department, shared her thoughts, saying: "I feel honoured and privileged to have attained this milestone and to raise the flag of the Kingdom of Bahrain in this international forum. This would not have been possible without divine grace, the support of the agency's Board of Directors led by HE Mohamed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, and the trust and nomination from the agency's executive management under Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Al Asiri. His belief in the capabilities of young Bahrainis and continuous efforts to develop and empower them in this field have been instrumental. I also wish to acknowledge the exceptional team at the National Space Science Agency, who were carefully chosen for their skills and abilities. I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me and contributed to this success, and I look forward to further advancing my career in space science."

This highly competitive award recognises only six individuals globally between the ages of 18 and 35. Engineer Al Haram emerged victorious from a pool of 5,200 competitors representing 77 countries. Her extraordinary achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring young minds in Bahrain and the region, showcasing the vast potential within the space sector.
