The Minister of Interior, His Excellency Lt. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, has issued Resolution No. 49 of 2024 in a measure to enhance the well-being of inmates and pretrial detainees.

This resolution amends certain provisions of Resolution No. 131 of 2015, which governs the executive regulations of the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation Law (Law No. 18 of 2014).

A significant change is outlined in Article 2, which now mandates that every correctional facility must maintain a fully equipped medical clinic.

These clinics must offer free medical care to inmates and pre-trial detainees. Each clinic must be staffed by one or more doctors and overseen by the centre’s chief medical officer.

The grades and secondment of these doctors from government health institutions will be arranged in collaboration with the Supreme Council of Health.
