Ministry of Works Seeks Contractor to Operate and Maintain Key Sewage Treatment Plants

The Ministry of Works in Bahrain has announced a tender for the operation and maintenance of three key sewage treatment plants (STP) : South Alba, Hamala, and Danaat Al Lawzi. This initiative aims to maintain the efficiency of these facilities, thereby safeguarding public health and environmental protection.

The Ministry specifies that the chosen contractor will be required to supply the necessary manpower, spare parts, chemicals, equipment, and all other consumables essential for the operation and maintenance of these plants over a two-year period. The contractor must adhere to all protocols and standards set by the Ministry throughout the management, operation, and maintenance of the facilities.

The project seeks to secure the uninterrupted and effective operation of these STP’s in accordance with the specified requirements, This is vital for preserving public health and protecting the environment.

Bahrain currently operates a network of 16 sewage treatment plants spread across the kingdom. These facilities collectively produce an average of more than 240,000 cubic metres of treated water per day. The pumping stations, transportation, and distribution networks for this treated water are subject to a thorough preventive maintenance programme overseen by the Ministry's engineers.

In particular, the South Alba station produces approximately 1,136 cubic metres of treated water per day, while the Hamala station has an average daily output of around 1,107 cubic metres.
