Jail terms reduced In fake bomb case

Manama

Two accused implicated in planting a fake bomb had their jail terms reduced on appeal.

Among the appellants is a teenager, while his 21-year-old co-accused, both of whom were earlier sentenced to 3 years each behind bars.

But the High Criminal Appeals court commuted their prison time to one year each.

The Bahrainis were allegedly among the mob that placed a fake bomb at Shaikh Isa Al Kabeer Avenue in Manama on June 16 last year.

Moreover, during the same event they also set movables on fire in a bid to put lives in danger.

Detectives identified two other suspects in connection with the riot, but they are still at large, though they were handed down three years in jail.

The accused were found guilty based on the detainees' confessions and the investigators' reports.

The appeals court upheld the fugitives' jail terms owing to their failure to contest the High Criminal Court verdict.

It's worth noting several fake bombs have been planted across Bahrain since the 2011 unrest to obstruct road traffic and to terrify citizens and residents.

The most recent incident happened on May 5 when masked miscreants left a fake bomb at Shaikh Khalifa Al Kabeer Avenue.
