The famous Bahrain's Almond Market is back for its second edition, offering a unique opportunity to experience authentic Bahraini agriculture.
Organised by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, the festival boasts a wider range of offerings compared to last year.
Over 13 local farmers are participating in the market, showcasing their fresh almonds (louz). Visitors can expect a diverse selection and support the local agricultural community.
The Ministry will further contribute by planting 1,000 louz seedlings during the festival, promoting the preservation of this vital crop. This unique market draws crowds from across the region.
"We can see visitors from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Dubai," says Seerous Shakeeb, a volunteer at Budaiya Farmers Market. to the Daily Tribune.
The high foot traffic speaks for itself, with Shakeeb reporting around 2,000 visitors within the first two hours last year. This year's market expands beyond just almonds.
Four productive farming families and five plant nurseries will be present, showcasing almond seedlings, other fruit varieties, and louz-related products.
Additionally, there will be activities for children and educational programs about almond trees.
Educating next generation
The Outdoor Educational Center and Global Shapers Manama Hub have partnered to create an educational corner within the market.
"Children could explore and get information about different kinds of Almond trees (Louz)," explains Mahdi Jasim Ghuloom, Vice Curator of Global Shapers, Manama Hub.
Teachers will be volunteering to share their knowledge and foster appreciation for this valuable crop.
Nature for healthier future
Reem Yateem, Founder of Learn to Grow Educational Center, emphasizes the importance of the market's educational aspect.
"We work to connect people with nature," she says. "We believe a healthy planet equals healthy people."
The Bahrain Almond Market's second edition takes place today and tomorrow (July 7th) at the Budaiya Botanical Garden's Farmers Market from 4.00 PM to 8.00 PM.
