Ongoing work on three development projects in the Mahzoora and Hajiyat areas of Riffa aims to enhance traffic flow by increasing street capacity and easing movement for citizens and residents, according to the Ministry of Works. These projects are expected to increase road capacity by 50%, significantly easing congestion within the city.

The Ministry explained on its official website that the first project includes the development of Mahzoora Avenue, Avenue 37, and Hajiyat Road; the second focuses on Mahzoora Avenue and Avenue 37 in Riffa; and the third involves the development of Hajiyat Road and the roundabout at Hajiyat Road and Jeddah Road.

The project to develop Mahzoora Avenue, Avenue 37, and Hajiyat Avenue 939 seeks to expand Mahzoora Avenue from two lanes to three lanes, from Road 3933 to Umm Al Naasan Avenue, to improve traffic flow. This development will increase the road's capacity from 3,200 vehicles per hour to 4,800 vehicles per hour, a 50% rise.

The Mahzoora Avenue and Avenue 37 development project in Riffa includes expanding Mahzoora Avenue from the intersection with Hajiyat Road to the National Charter Highway, which will improve traffic flow. The project involves adding a third lane to Mahzoora Avenue between Estiqlal Avenue and Road 3933, spanning 970 metres, and developing the intersection, as well as the segment between Road 3701 and Road 3710. Additionally, a drainage network for rainwater will be constructed, and pedestrian pavement will be provided.

The project to develop Hajiyat Road and the roundabout at Hajiyat Road and Jeddah Road aims to enhance Hajiyat Road and Jeddah Road and create a new roundabout, increasing the intersection’s capacity by about 600 vehicles per hour. The new roundabout at the Jeddah Road intersection will boost the capacity from 800 vehicles per hour to 1,500 vehicles per hour.
