The fourth edition of the Bahrain Film Festival has concluded its call for entries, receiving a total of 481 films from 23 Arab countries. The festival's official competition will present entries across five main categories: short narrative films, short documentaries, animation films, Bahraini films, and student films.
The selection committee, presided over by renowned Bahraini writer and media personality Dr. Perween Habib, will begin the evaluation process today, Saturday, 6 July 2024. Joining Dr. Habib on the distinguished panel are Saudi director Reem Al Bayat, Saudi director and artist Dr. Hakim Jumaa, Emirati director Nawaf Al Janahi, and the French cultural attaché in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The fourth iteration of the festival, bearing the theme "We Celebrate the Art of Filmmaking," is scheduled to take place in November as part of the "Manama, Capital of Arab Media" event, organised by the Bahrain Film Club in partnership with the Ministry of Information. The festival is anticipated to attract extensive participation from Arab and Gulf filmmakers.
Beyond the film screenings, the fourth Bahrain Film Festival will offer specialised workshops and seminars designed to enhance the experience of young individuals keen on the cinematic arts. The festival has sustained its success over the past three editions, serving as a platform for Bahraini talent and facilitating artistic exchange between diverse nations and cultures.
The previous edition of the festival, held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al-Noaimi, Minister of Information, and under the theme "Celebrating the Art of Filmmaking," featured 117 short Arab films in competition.
