The High Appeals Court has postponed the hearing in the case of a Bahraini man sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay a temporary compensation of BD1,000 for attacking a nurse.

The defendant was found guilty of assault resulting in a 20% disability in the nurse’s eye.

The postponement was due to the absence of the defendant’s lawyer.

The case involves a 30-yearold defendant who was diagnosed with schizophrenia and substance abuse disorder, according to a report by the Psychiatric Hospital’s medical committee.

Despite his mental health condition, the committee determined that there was no direct causal link between his disorder and the assault, concluding that he was responsible for his actions.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with assaulting the nurse while he was performing his duties, causing the aforementioned injuries.

The assault resulted in a 20% disability, although the defendant did not intend to cause such harm.

The victim, a nurse at the Psychiatric Hospital, recounted the incident. He stated that around 1:00 PM, he witnessed the defendant running towards him in the hospital corridor and launching an unprovoked attack.

The defendant punched the nurse in the right eye, and despite attempts to restrain him, continued to assault him with multiple punches, causing him to fall to the ground.

The defendant continued to kick the nurse while he was on his back until hospital staff intervened
