Minister calls for responsible religious discourse ahead of Ashura season

Major Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, emphasized the need for responsible religious discourse and Islamic values during his annual meeting with the Husseini Processions Commission and Matam leaders ahead of the Ashura Season.
“We have qualified preachers and reciters capable of upholding Bahrain’s rich Ashura traditions,” he affirmed, recognizing their pivotal role in leading the Husseini processions and Matam mournings.
The meeting, held at the Security Officers Club and attended by the Chief of Public Security and Governors, aimed to enhance cooperation for organizing a smooth Ashura season.
Major Shaikh Rashid conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, emphasising their dedicated efforts in preparing for Ashura.
“We gather today with a shared commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful Ashura season,” he stated.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Ja’afari Endowments Administration and Matam leaders for their cooperation in preserving Ashura’s rituals, highlighting its role in fostering social unity and tolerance.
He underscored Ashura’s significance, stressing the need to protect its spiritual integrity amidst current challenges.
Governor Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa of the Capital Governorate reaffirmed their commitment to celebrating Ashura in a manner reflecting Bahrain’s values.
Yusuf bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Ja’afari Endowments Council, thanked His Majesty and the Crown Prince for their support of religious traditions, noting the King’s dedication to preserving Ashura’s significance.
Members of the Husseini Processions Commission and Matam leaders expressed gratitude to the Interior Minister for his support in ensuring a successful Ashura season.
