Man gets life term, 15-year jail for partner in drug case

Two Pakistani men involved in smuggling heroin capsules weighing half kilogram have been slapped with heavy jail terms. The first man, aged 39, was handed down life sentence imprisonment, while his 29-year-old co-defendant was given 15 years behind bars.

He was also handed down six months in prison of staying illegally in the country. The 39-year-old was said to have succeeded in passing through the Bahrain International Airport while carrying 69 capsules of heroin in his stomach without being caught.

But investigations have later revealed that a Pakistani man managed to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom through the Bahrain International Airport. Detectives later managed to identify his whereabouts. He was arrested, and the capsules were seized from under his bed.

The 39-year-old man revealed to the police that he was expecting a call from Pakistan to hand over the drugs to someone in Bahrain. When he received the call, police officers acted quickly and captured the recipient (the second defendant) who was supposed to distribute the heroin across the Kingdom. The 29-year-old man was busted while trying to receive the drugs.

The defendants were ordered by the High Criminal Court to be expelled from the country when they complete their jail terms.
