The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain has intensified its efforts to combat illegal labour practices, conducting 408 inspection campaigns and visits between 7 and 13 July 2024. These inspections resulted in the apprehension of 58 undocumented workers and the deportation of 168 individuals who violated labour regulations.
The inspections revealed several violations related to the provisions of the LMRA Law and the Bahrain Residence Law. The LMRA has taken legal action against those found in breach of the regulations, it stressed in a statement.
The authority, as per the statement, conducted 394 inspection visits to various commercial establishments across all governorates. Additionally, 14 joint inspection campaigns were carried out, including 10 in the Capital Governorate, one each in Muharraq and Northern Governorate, and two in the Southern Governorate. These campaigns involved collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, specifically the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs, as well as the security directorates in the governorates and the General Directorate for the Execution of Judgments and Alternative Penalties.
The LMRA emphasised in the statement its ongoing coordination with government agencies to intensify inspection campaigns across all governorates.
Moreover, the LMRA reiterated its call for community members to support government efforts in combating illegal labour practices and undocumented workers, safeguarding the community as a whole. The authority encouraged individuals to report any complaints related to labour market violations and illegal labour through the dedicated electronic form on the LMRA website (www.lmra.gov.bh), the national suggestion and complaint system (Tawasul), or by contacting the LMRA call centre at +973 17506055.
