The High Criminal Court has sentenced two Bahraini men to prison terms following a violent road rage incident that resulted in one of the individuals sustaining a permanent injury. The incident occurred on 28 December 2023 near the Al Ramli traffic signal in Bahrain.
The High Criminal Court heard that the first defendant, while driving his car, had cut off the vehicle of the second defendant, leading to an argument that quickly escalated into a physical altercation between the two men.
During the fight, the first defendant used his mobile phone to assault the second defendant, causing a laceration to his head and a fracture to the ring finger on his left hand. The injury to the ring finger was deemed to have resulted in a permanent 2% disability, as assessed by the Forensic Department.
In retaliation, the second defendant also struck the first defendant, causing swelling to his little finger, a bruise on his right elbow, and a bruise on his right forearm. Both defendants confessed to the assault charges during the Public Prosecution investigation. The first defendant admitted to using his phone to attack the second defendant, while the second defendant acknowledged his involvement in the physical altercation.
The High Criminal Court sentenced the first defendant to six months in prison, while the second defendant received a one-month sentence. In considering the punishment, the court took into account the second defendant's previous criminal record, which included a charge of assault.
