Bahrain affirms climate action commitment

The Minister of Sustainable Development, Her Excellency Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, underscored Bahrain’s advancements in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reiterated the kingdom’s steadfast commitment to climate action.

This came as Alkhulaif joined the Kingdom’s delegation in the annual forum held under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The event convened to assess international practices in achieving the SDGs and review countries’ progress through voluntary national reviews. It also addressed challenges linked with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The opening session was graced by H.E. Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations, alongside speeches from notable figures.

During the high-level discussion titled “From the Summit on Sustainable Development to the Summit on the Future,” Her Excellency highlighted Bahrain’s strides in SDG achievement since its second voluntary national review.

She underscored initiatives like the “Bahrain Declaration” from the 33rd Arab Summit and Bahrain’s commitment to climate action through initiatives like the National Action Plan to Achieve Carbon Neutrality Blueprint Bahrain.

The Minister emphasised Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2050 and its holistic approach to societal and cultural development, ensuring the preservation of heritage and identity.

Youth empowerment

She concluded by advocating for youth empowerment in shaping future aspirations. On the sidelines, Her Excellency engaged in bilateral discussions with UN officials.

These meetings focused on enhancing sustainable development cooperation and leveraging international expertise. The forum remains a pivotal platform for global collaboration towards realising the ambitious goals of sustainable development.
