A Bahraini court has sentenced a 29-year-old man to one year in prison for causing a permanent injury to his friend during a heated argument in a car. The defendant, who is a retired individual, was found guilty of assault resulting in a 3% permanent disability, even though he did not intend to cause such harm.
The incident occurred on March 27th when the defendant and the victim, who were friends, engaged in a verbal altercation while riding in the victim's car. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, with the defendant punching the victim in the nose and continuing to assault him.
The victim testified that the defendant, after stopping the car, grabbed him by the neck and bit his left ear with force, holding him for approximately 15 seconds. The victim managed to break free and seek help from passersby who intervened to separate the two men.
The defendant admitted to the assault, stating that he had bitten the victim's ear but did not intend to cause any permanent injury. A medical report confirmed that the victim's left ear injury, a 3% permanent disability, was consistent with a bite wound.
The court, considering the defendant's prior convictions for similar offenses, sentenced him to one year in prison for the assault resulting in permanent injury.
