A Bahraini court has fined a man 1,000 Bahraini dinars for causing damage to public property while driving under the influence of alcohol. The court found the defendant guilty of reckless driving and causing damage to a public barrier.
According to the case details, the incident occurred on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway when the defendant, while driving under the influence of alcohol, failed to exercise due care and attention, resulting in a collision with a metal barrier. The collision caused damage to both the defendant's vehicle and the barrier.
The court relied on the defendant's confession during the trial and the results of a blood alcohol test conducted by the Ministry of Interior's health centre. The test revealed a high level of alcohol in the defendant's blood, confirming his inability to control his vehicle.
The court considered the defendant's confession, deemed it reliable, and found that the evidence presented proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crimes charged. The court then sentenced the defendant based on Articles 1/12, 10, 9/45, and 2, 1/51 of the Traffic Law No. 23 of 2014, and Article 256 of the Criminal Procedures Law.
The court further determined that the offenses committed by the defendant were interconnected and could not be separated, thus considering them as one single crime. Consequently, the court imposed the maximum penalty for the combined offenses, fining the defendant 1,000 Bahraini dinars.
