Man on trial for causing car accident victim’s disability

A seemingly minor car accident escalated into a criminal case after a 50-year-old man sustained a permanent injury, resulting in a 10% disability. The incident occurred when the victim, while leaving his home, collided with a car parked behind his residence.

The victim recounted that upon exiting his vehicle, he discovered a young woman inside the other car. She contacted her father, who arrived with his son, the defendant.

Heated exchange

During a heated exchange, the defendant, the woman’s brother, allegedly punched the victim in the left jaw. The altercation was eventually broken up by the defendant’s father.

The defendant confessed to the assault during investigations conducted by the Public Prosecution. The defendant’s sister corroborated the account, stating that her brother had indeed punched the victim.

Punch A medical report confirmed that the victim’s injury was consistent with a punch and resulted in a fractured lower jaw. The injury required more than 20 days of treatment and involved surgical intervention to fix the fracture. The victim also had to undergo the extraction of two teeth due to damage caused by the injury.

As a result, he now experiences reduced sensation in the lower left side of his face due to nerve damage, leading to a permanent disability estimated at 10%. The High Criminal Court has initiated proceedings against the defendant, a 24-year-old crane operator, for causing permanent disability without intent The defendant has acknowledged the charges.

The court has scheduled August 4th for the defense attorney to review the case and respond, with the provision of copies of the case files.
