Bahrain to witness partial lunar eclipse on September 18, 2024

Bahraini astronomer Ali Al-Hajri has announced that the Kingdom will experience a partial lunar eclipse on September 18, 2024, during the full moon of Rabi’ al-Awwal.

This eclipse will be visible for 22 minutes, from 5:05am to 5:27am, with approximately 3.22% of the moon’s surface being eclipsed at moonset.

Al-Hajri also announced that the moon will be in conjunction with the sun on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 3:26pm, Bahrain local time. Islamic month of Safar This astronomical event is a key indicator for determining the start of the Islamic month of Safar 1446 AH.

According to Al-Hajri, the beginning of Safar is anticipated to be observed on either August 5 or 6, 2024, depending on the method of calculation used.

The crescent moon may be visible on the evening of Monday, August 5, though observation conditions are expected to be challenging.

Crescent At sunset on August 5, the moon will be 26 hours and 55 minutes old, and the crescent will remain visible for approximately 51 minutes.

The moon’s illumination will be at a mere 1.28%, with a thickness of 23 arc seconds. Successful observation will largely depend on weather conditions.

Al-Hajri noted that those following astronomical calendars might mark August 5 as the beginning of Safar, whereas those adhering to visual sighting calendars could observe it on August 6.
