His Excellency Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), has reaffirmed Bahrain’s ongoing endeavours to enhance human rights, sustain a stable work environment, and combat human trafficking. These initiatives are part of the broader developmental vision led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the government under His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Humaidan made his statement in recognition of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30th July. He observed that Bahrain’s top position in the US State Department’s annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report for the seventh consecutive year reflects the Kingdom's effective strategies to tackle human trafficking. These strategies encompass various initiatives and projects grounded in advanced local legislation and global best practices.

The Minister of Labour also noted that Bahrain’s approach to combating human trafficking serves as a model for others. The Kingdom has implemented the Wages Protection System, optional insurance for domestic workers, flexible work permits, a tripartite contract for domestic workers, and measures against forced labour. Bahrain has also established a shelter providing comprehensive services for those vulnerable to abuse or exploitation, including security, medical and mental health services, legal consultations, and information on their rights. The shelter supports victims with various programmes, humanitarian aid, and financial support, alongside a specialised Public Prosecution and a dedicated court to expedite trafficking cases.

Humaidan reiterated Bahrain’s efforts to adhere to international conventions and protocols to fortify systems for preventing human trafficking. The Kingdom is continually reviewing and updating national laws and measures to ensure protection for workers and maintain its leading position in this vital area.
