Several individuals detained during the recent riots had previously been pardoned by royal decree, while others are minors. The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that legal proceedings are now underway against these individuals.
The Ministry stressed its role in keeping the public informed of security matters and enhancing community relations. It confirmed that police had taken appropriate legal actions and arrested multiple participants in the disturbances.
The announcement disclosed that some detainees had earlier been released under a royal pardon, which had released convicts in various criminal cases. Despite this, these individuals have reoffended, squandering their opportunity to reintegrate into society. Additionally, a number of those arrested were identified as minors, and legal processes have been initiated against them.
The Ministry of Interior stated that minors would be handed over to their guardians in accordance with Article 55 of the Restorative Justice for Children and Their Protection from Maltreatment. This law stipulates that anyone legally or contractually obliged to care for a child and who exposes them to any form of maltreatment, causing substantial physical or psychological harm, shall be punished by imprisonment or a fine of not less than one hundred dinars, or both. This clause holds parents and guardians fully accountable for their children’s well-being as mandated by law.
In conclusion, the Ministry affirmed that the handling of riots adheres to legal standards, as such events threaten public peace and social cohesion. It emphasised that maintaining Bahrain's stability is a national duty, urging everyone to protect the nation's security and achievements.
