Identity of sailor died in Juffair revealed

Manama

The Department of Defence of the United States has revealed the identity of young sailor killed in Bahrain on May 16. The sailor has been identified as 21-year-old Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Devon J. Doyle, who hails from Alamosa, the Navy Times reported.

The U.S. 5th Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Kevin Stephens earlier stated that the sailor, assigned to the destroyer USS Farragut, was "on liberty" in Manama.

The USS Farragut is part of the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group currently deployed to the U.S. Fifth Fleet in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the campaign against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The incident occurred at about 10pm and Doyle, who had fallen from seventh floor of an apartment in Juffair, was pronounced dead on the spot. The ship was docked there as part of a routine port visit.

According to eyewitnesses, Doyle was under heavy influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.
