The swift action taken by administrative and executive teams in evaluating the damage from recent heavy rainfall has been widely recognised.

Dr Sayed Shubbar Al Wedai, Chairman of the North Municipal Council, expressed gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his focus on those impacted by the floods.

He acknowledged HRH Prince Salman’s personal engagement, reflecting a deep concern for the welfare of the nation’s people.

Al Wedai praised the Minister of Works, His Excellency Engineer Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Undersecretary Shaikh Engineer Mishaal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Ministry of Works’ Rain Damage Assessment Team for their effective evaluation of the damage.

He noted that compensation for affected individuals is progressing, with the Ministry of Finance and National Economy managing payments in phases.

Some people are still finalising their paperwork, and final lists will be released after all submissions are reviewed.

Al Wedai also commended the Northern Municipal Council members for their careful oversight of affected families and their cooperation with the Damage Assessment Committee.

He recognised the staff’s diligent work in data collection and list preparation. The deadline for submitting claims in the northern region was 15 May 2024.

Out of 678 claims, 502 were complete, 39 were incomplete, and 137 did not meet the necessary criteria. Some claims were invalid as they related to rainwater leakage through windows and roofs, not the rainfall itself.

In Muharraq, Municipal Council member Mohammed Almuqahwi reported that the Ministry of Works has started compensating affected residents through its projects, with payments already made to those in Al-Hidd, as previously announced.

Almuqahwi emphasised the need to integrate areas needing rehabilitation into the Ministry of Works’ future plans.

He highlighted the importance of improving rainwater drainage infrastructure to protect the progress made and ensure the safety and comfort of both citizens and residents of Al-Hidd.

He concluded by reiterating thanks to HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his direct involvement and genuine concern for the nation’s people.
