The Indian Ladies Association (ILA) celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India at a function held on Thursday evening at Tandoori Tantra, a charming restaurant owned by ILA member Pallavi Khanna.

The event opened with a warm welcome extended to new members by the ILA Executive Committee 2024. ILA President, Kiran Mangle, delivered an inspiring speech, reflecting on the significance of Independence Day for the Indian diaspora in Bahrain. Following her, Vice President Dr. Tejender Kaur Sarna captivated the audience with a powerful two-minute demonstration, symbolizing the 200 years of bondage India endured. Her impactful presentation stirred deep reflections on the sacrifices that shaped India’s freedom.

Treasurer Sheetal Shah motivated the members with a speech that resonated deeply, followed by Secretary for Membership, Hilda Lobo, who energized the room by announcing the much-anticipated ILA Dandiya event, quickly becoming the evening’s highlight.

ILA Public Relations Secretary Zamini Charak added a patriotic flair to the celebration with a heartfelt song that mesmerized the gathering. Distinguished media guests, Rajji Unnikrishnan of 973 Lounge, Meera Ravi of Salaam Bahrain, RJ Juhi, and RJ Satya of Radio Mirchi 104.2 FM Bahrain uplifted the crowd with their inspiring stories of patriotism.

The evening continued with a lively patriotic game, organized by Dr. Tejender Kaur Sarna and woven around India’s glorious history, inspired by ILA member Anupam Kinger.

The celebration also welcomed the presence of Megha Jain and Monika Singh, spouses of Indian Embassy officials, who embraced the festive atmosphere and shared in the ‘home away from home’ feeling created by the event. Monthly birthday celebrations added a personal and joyful touch to the afternoon, enhancing the sense of community.

In all, the Independence Day celebration was a resounding success, filled with joy, camaraderie, and a deep sense of patriotism. Attendees left feeling uplifted, proud, and connected to their heritage, marking yet another significant triumph for the ILA.
