The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Ministry of Health has confirmed it is keeping a close watch on global developments concerning the monkeypox virus, following the World Health Organisation’s declaration of Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, as a public health emergency. The ministry stated that, so far, no cases of the virus have been found in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

It also explained that the monkeypox vaccine is available at several primary healthcare centres. In addition, a preventive strategy has been set up to manage infectious diseases and curb the spread of infections. An emergency plan has been drawn up in case any monkeypox cases arise. Monkeypox is a viral infection caused by the Mpox virus.

It is characterised by fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.

Transmission occurs through direct contact with infected individuals or animals. While typically mild, severe cases can arise. Vaccines and antiviral treatments can cure the disease, and prevention involves avoiding contact with infected persons or animals.

Good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing and using personal protective equipment, can further reduce the risk of infection.

Early detection and isolation of infected individuals are crucial in controlling outbreaks and preventing the spread of Mpox.
