MP Dr Hassan Bukhamas emphasised that the creation of the King Hamad Award for Peaceful Coexistence, through a royal decree issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, stands as a meaningful move that mirrors the objectives rooted in Bahrain’s long-standing heritage.

These ideals, forged through the nation’s history, are shaped by an openness to diverse civilisations, religions, and cultures, promoting the ethos of peaceful coexistence.

Bukhamas, a member of the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee, said that the award plays a part in furthering efforts towards dialogue among civilisations and the promotion of harmonious living.

Bukhamas noted that Bahrain presents itself as a prime example of harmony among people of varying religious backgrounds, sects, and cultures, a condition nurtured by the freedoms encouraged under the leadership of HM the King within the wider reform framework.

He also recalled the earlier establishment of The King Hamad Chair for Interreligious Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence at Sapienza Universita di Roma in 2018, an initiative that has garnered attention from numerous students hailing from different faiths and nations.

The goal of this endeavour is to promote respect for religious freedoms, safeguard the right of individuals to freely practise their worship, and encourage thoughtful and amicable dialogue across religious divides, while firmly opposing any form of discrimination, sectarianism, or injustice based on ethnicity or belief.
