Skywatchers in Bahrain are in for a treat next Monday, August 19th, as a "Blue Moon" will illuminate the night sky.
The celestial event coincides with the full moon of the Islamic month of Safar 1446.
According to Bahraini astronomy researcher Mohammed Reza Al Asfoor, this will be the third full moon of the current summer season.
The fourth and final full moon of the summer will occur on Wednesday, September 18th, and will be accompanied by a partial lunar eclipse, he stated.
While the term "Blue Moon" might evoke images of a blue-hued orb, Al Asfoor clarifies that this is simply a name for the third full moon in a season that experiences four full moons. The name has no impact on the moon's actual appearance or color.
The moon will be visible throughout the night, rising at 6:12 PM local time in Bahrain, shortly after sunset. It will reach its peak fullness at 9:25 PM and will set at 5:36 AM the following morning, just before sunrise.
So mark your calendars, Bahrain, and prepare to witness this unique celestial spectacle.
