New statistics released by the Higher Education Council of Bahrain reveal enrollment trends in private higher education institutions for 2023. A total of 11,197 students from Bahrain, the GCC, and outside the region were registered for studies in these institutions, compared to 14,550 students in 2022.

The figures highlight a strong interest from neighbouring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. A total of 429 Saudi students, including 267 female and 162 male students, enrolled in private higher education institutions in Bahrain during 2023.

Kuwait followed closely with 212 students, including 131 female and 81 male students. Oman recorded 31 students, Qatar 10, and the United Arab Emirates 8.

The statistics also show a significant number of non-GCC students enrolling in private higher education institutions in Bahrain, with 1,859 students registering. Of these, 986 were male and 873 were female.

In terms of GCC student enrollment in public higher education institutions, the statistics reveal a total of 1,907 students. This includes 1,132 Saudi students (719 female and 413 male), 616 Kuwaiti students (438 female and 178 male), 152 Omani students (134 female and 18 male), 4 Qatari students, and 3 Emirati students.

Bahrain's commitment to investing in human capital is evident in its focus on higher education.

The government recognises the crucial role that higher education plays in supporting economic development, enhancing investment, and fostering innovation in the Kingdom.

To further support students, Bahrain offers scholarships and grants to enable them to pursue advanced degrees at universities and higher education institutions both domestically and abroad. This commitment to education is seen as a key strategy for ensuring a bright future for Bahrain's workforce.
