MP Khalid Buanq has praised the Bahraini Cabinet's decision to eliminate a rule that prevented spouses from benefiting from housing services if they inherited property. He described the move as a "significant step" towards addressing housing concerns and a testament to the commitment of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to prioritise the needs of Bahraini citizens.

"This move is a testament to the Crown Prince's dedication to resolving the housing issue," stated MP Buanq. "It's a crucial step in a series of initiatives and reforms aimed at improving access to housing services and alleviating the burdens faced by citizens who were previously ineligible due to inherited property."

MP Buanq underscored the collaborative efforts between the executive and legislative branches in tackling the housing challenge. "The housing file is a priority for both branches of government," he said. "We are working closely to reduce waiting lists, introduce innovative housing solutions, and continuously update regulations to ensure citizens benefit from housing services by the Constitution, which guarantees the right to housing for all Bahrainis."

The Cabinet's approval of a draft decision amending the regulatory requirements for development in housing project areas is also seen as a positive step. This amendment will enable expansion in the construction areas of housing units and plots, addressing the need for larger and more suitable housing options.

MP Buanq highlighted several other housing-related issues requiring attention, including the review of housing benefits, delays in the disbursement of budgets for certain housing services (particularly for citizens waiting for benefits for over nine months), and the need to align housing unit specifications with the requirements of Bahraini families. He expressed optimism that solutions will be found given the Crown Prince's strong commitment to addressing these issues.
