H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani takes part at 3rd Voice of Global South Summit in India

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, represented the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Foreign Ministers’ session of the 3rd Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS 3.0) held in India on 17 Aug 2024 with the overarching theme of “An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future”. The session was held with the theme “Global South and Global Governance” of the summit chaired by H.E. Dr. S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, India.

In his address in the second Foreign Ministers’ Session, Dr. S Jaishankar highlighted the importance of global institutions and governance architecture and the need to reform multilateralism to revive its credibility; and the importance of access to finance and technology to unlock the development potential of the Global South.

Collective initiatives

He also discussed the need for collective initiatives to show greater willingness to act on issues of common interest; and making inter-dependence a strength through intensifying South-South interactions to ensure that exposures and vulnerabilities are not leveraged.

The Voice of Global South envisages bringing together countries of the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform across a whole range of issues.

India had hosted the 1st Voice of Global South Summit from 12-13 January 2023 where H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment, represented Bahrain in the Energy Ministers’ session of the summit chaired by Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India.

The Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, represented Kingdom at the Concluding Leaders’ session of the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit hosted by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 17 November 2023.
