Major General Dr Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Deputy Chief of Public Security, presided over the second ministerial meeting of Arab officials on disaster risk reduction at the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Egypt.
At the outset, the Deputy Chief of Public Security greeted the participants and noted Bahrain's efforts to strengthen Arab collaboration in disaster risk reduction. This initiative is driven by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s guidance and is monitored by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He pointed out that securing public safety remains a top priority under General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa’s vision as Minister of Interior. This vision addresses crime and protects society from various threats, including those in cyberspace, which is increasingly exploited for cybercrime and legal breaches.
The Deputy Chief of Public Security highlighted Bahrain's dedication to disaster risk reduction, aligning with its goals for sustainability, security, and stability. This includes managing risks and meeting sustainable development targets through government initiatives such as the National Emergency Strategy, which aims to ensure preparedness, resilience, and foster both regional and international cooperation.
He also noted Bahrain’s active involvement in disaster risk reduction meetings and its belief in the importance of Arab integration and implementing the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (ASDRR). This cooperation aims to enhance emergency preparedness and build a strong Arab infrastructure for response, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive approach to transboundary risks, which requires coordination at all stages of an emergency.
The Deputy Chief of Public Security stressed the role of awareness in disaster management. Bahrain has used technology to improve education on emergency and disaster risks, launching the National Civil Protection Platform in 2023 and approving the National Early Warning System to protect lives and property while improving management of emergencies and disasters.
The meeting also covered various related topics and approved the logo for the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025.
