Yemen’s ambassador to Bahrain, Ali Hassan Al Ahmadi, has assured that the five Bahraini travellers are under Yemeni state protection and not in the hands of any other group or illegal militia.
In a statement to Al Ayam, Al Ahmadi explained that the travellers, who were detained at a military checkpoint, are being questioned by security authorities in Marib province after entering a restricted area. They will be released unless there are specific security reasons for their continued detention.
Al Ayam Reported earlier that the five individuals have been held for over 20 days. They were on a journey from Oman to Abha in Saudi Arabia, as stated by their families.
Al Ahmadi confirmed that the Yemeni embassy had not received any official notice about their detention, noting that all communications had been managed through the Saudi embassy in Riyadh.
On the circumstances of their detention, Al Ahmadi said they were taken into custody in a military zone, leading to their referral for investigation by the Political Security Office in Marib, based on the information available.
The ambassador added, "They were detained in a military area and questioned, where they stated they were unfamiliar with the location and were lost. They are now under investigation by the Political Security Office." He concluded, "They will be released if no charges are brought against them."
