Prizes and medals await those bold enough to test their wits at the Gold Generation Chess Championship, where top players will clash for victory. The Bahrain Chess Federation has extended an invitation to chess lovers, suggesting that this could be a turning point for the game in the kingdom.
The federation announced that the championship will take place on the 27th and 28th of August, under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. It is part of the Khalid bin Hamad Gold Generation Games 2024, which aim to bring more sports federations into the fold, nurture talent, and boost Bahraini achievements.
A talented flock of young players, seen as the future of Bahraini chess, will take their seats at the boards. Those who rise to the top will claim their prizes and medals.
Ebrahim Al Burshaid, Secretary-General of the Bahrain Chess Federation, remarked that this championship presents a rare chance to uncover and guide young talents who might one day form the core of Bahrain’s national team. He described it as a step in a larger plan to build up a new generation of players, ones who could carry Bahrain’s flag on the international stage.
Al Burshaid also mentioned that the federation remains focused on pushing competition and development forward, with an eye always on discovering new talent. This championship, he noted, is part of a broader vision: to lay down the foundation for players who will be the backbone of the Gold Generation, ready to compete both at home and abroad.
