A recent joint effort involving multiple government agencies has brought relief to residents of Muharraq by cleaning up approximately 20 abandoned homes in the area.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Muharraq Municipal Council, involved the participation of the Muharraq Municipality's Executive Branch, the Ministry of Health, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, and the Ministry of Interior.

The cleanup operation, which included thorough cleaning and spraying of insecticides and rodenticides, addressed a long-standing concern for residents.

Many of these abandoned homes had become breeding grounds for pests and posed a potential health hazard.

The initiative not only improved the aesthetic appeal of the area but also ensured a safer environment for residents.

Abdul Aziz Al Naar, Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council and representative of the fourth constituency, highlighted the issue of numerous abandoned homes in the area, with owners neglecting them for years.

He attributed this neglect to various factors, including inheritance disputes, financial difficulties, and a lack of awareness regarding the responsibility of maintaining properties.

"This is not just about cleaning up abandoned homes," said Al Naar. "It's about addressing a broader societal issue. We need to find ways to encourage owners to maintain their properties, whether through incentives or stricter regulations. This is a matter of public health and safety, and it's important that we work together to find sustainable solutions."

Al Naar expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all participating agencies for their commitment to environmental and safety standards. He emphasised their unwavering dedication to maintaining open communication channels and promptly responding to any needs.
