The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) carried out 1,714 inspections between 18 and 24 August 2024, which led to the detention of 45 illegal and non-compliant workers. In the same period, 181 violators were deported.
These inspections uncovered several breaches of various regulations, particularly those outlined in the Labour Market Regulatory Authority Law and the Residency Law of Bahrain. Legal action followed where violations were found.
The Authority specified that 1,702 inspections took place across commercial establishments in all governorates. Additionally, 12 joint operations were conducted: seven in the Capital Governorate, one in Muharraq, and two in both the Northern and Southern Governorates. These joint efforts included the participation of the Ministry of Interior, Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, local police, and the Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing.
The Authority reiterated its collaboration with other government bodies to ramp up inspections across Bahrain’s governorates, with the aim of addressing violations that could destabilise the labour market or threaten the kingdom’s economic and social security.
The LMRA also urged the public to aid in tackling illegal practices in the labour market and curbing irregular employment, which ultimately serves to protect the broader community. Citizens and residents are encouraged to report any labour market violations or irregular employment through the eForm available on the Authority's website, via the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul), or by contacting the LMRA Call Centre on 17506055.
