The Interior Ministry’s Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) has announced that the committee responsible for reviewing cases of illegal naturalisation — specifically, those granted citizenship since 2010 — will verify the accuracy of the information and documents provided by individuals who acquired Bahraini nationality.
In a statement released yesterday, the Ministry confirmed that the revocation of nationality would not be limited to the individual responsible for any wrongdoing.
Family members who obtained citizenship due to the initial violation could also face similar consequences.
The Ministry noted that, under the law, individuals who have abused their nationality, acted against the kingdom’s interests, or failed to fulfil their duty of loyalty will face legal action.
This also applies to anyone convicted of dishonesty or who used false information or documents to obtain Bahraini nationality.
However, the committee has made it clear that certain groups will be exempt from this review.
These include children of Bahraini women married to foreigners and foreign women who gained Bahraini nationality through marriage.
